Just 30 min away from the isle of Manhattan by Seastreak Ferry, or 1 1/2 hrs by car or RR, this beautiful "Waspy" historical town of gentle rolling hills, horse farms and fox hunts is a welcome respite from NYC's busyness. But do not let the serenity fool you, Rumsun is also the home of Bon Jovi's recording studio & landed, eccentric hip.
I recently visited the Stately Homes By The Sea Designer Showhouse where my friend NY-based, Designer Jamie Gibbs had created a beautiful boudoir and powder-room, and Interior Designer Charles Pavarini III created a lovely garden room. Set on the "Applewynd" Estate, the 11,000-sqare-foot main house was completed in 1928 as the home of the Metcalfs - patrons of the arts, and a force in establishing the Rumsun Polo Club. The mansion is uniquely constructed of poured concrete and steel, materials customarily employed in skyscrapers of that era.
