Director James Crump Screened at The Tribeca Film Festival The first serious Collector who purchased a photograph from Moi was Sam Wagstaff - the primary subject of this film. And Robert Mapplethorpe - the secondary subject - was my friend until his untimely death from AIDS. So it was with strong emotions and interest that I viewed this documentary. The film presents an intriguing portrait of the complex, excentric, extraordinarily handsome, visionary art-lover and first major Photography Collector, Sam Wagstaff. It also takes a somewhat cynical peek at the relationship with the extremely talented Artist/Photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. As background the docu also serves as a fascinating re-view (in the true sense of the word) of the '70s and 80s art, gay and social scenes in New York.

This film in all its open-hearted goodness and delight is her legacy. The film stars not only Shelly herself, but Cheryl Hines (of "Curb Your Enthusiasm"fame) Keri Russell, Nathan Fillion, Jeremy Sisto and Andy Griffith.
